The 81st annual Golden Globe Awards featured numerous noteworthy fashion moments, including Timothée Chalamet in a sparkling black Celine and Andra Day in a vintage Georges Chakra gown, as well as Margot Robbie in a pink Armani Privé inspired by ‘Barbie’.
Has the trend of masculine peacocks passed? At the 2024 Golden Globes, the predominant menswear trend was for the majority of men to have abandoned their ties at home or in the Uber, a risky choice that in some instances resulted in an ensemble that was a little too casual for the occasion.
But the women more than made up for the men’s collective relaxed attitude with their glamorous looks, from the shimmer of Taylor Swift‘s lime-green Gucci sequined gown to the flurry of roses on Jennifer Lopez’s romantic pink wrap with matching gown. And speaking of pink, Margot Robbie is in no hurry to abandon Barbie‘s favorite color, instead working with a legendary couturier on her Golden Globes look.
The Golden Globes carpet was undeniably adorned with feminine details, ranging from Lopez’s blossoms to Robbie’s signature pink. Stars such as Amanda Seyfried (wearing Armani Privé), Sarah Snook (accessorizing a black lace Prabal Gurung with a sweet hair bow), and Hailee Steinfeld (accessorizing her stunning Prada gown with a ribbon featuring a bow) were observed adorning themselves with bows. Additionally, women in red, including Florence Pugh in Valentino, Ayo Edebiri in Prada, Michelle Yeoh in Bottega Veneta, and Rachel Brosnahan in a splendidly tailored gown by Sergio Hudson, dominated the evening.
Out of an abundance of high-wattage styles, The Hollywood Reporter chose twenty-five favorites. Below are the specifics of these standout outfits.
Taylor Swift in Gucci.
Although she skipped the red carpet to enter the Golden Globes in private, the megawatt Eras Tour star’s sartorial selection was anything but subdued. The Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour-nominated gown designed by Sabato De Sarno for Gucci featured an extensive use of sequins and was entirely encrusted with sequins. Additionally, her De Beers jewelry surpassed 33 carats of white diamonds. Swift completed the ensemble with the Kate stiletto heel in green leather by Christian Louboutin.
Rachel Brosnahan in Sergio Hudson
The nominee for best actress for the final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel wore an incredible statement gown by Sergio Hudson, proving the power red fashion theory. The gown was hand-covered silk buttons and custom-made in New York City on Brosnahan to guarantee the look’s impeccable tailoring. The actress complemented her ensemble with red Jimmy Choo Max platform sandals and Swarovski jewelry.
Margot Robbie in Giorgio Armani Privé
Andrew Mukamal, Robbie’s stylist, collaborated with Giorgio Armani to design the Barbie producer/star’s glitzy pink sequined gown with tulle wrap. The dress was modeled after a 1977 “SuperStar Barbie” creation. The ensemble was completed with a pair of satin pink shoes by Manolo Blahnik and earrings and a ring by Lorraine Schwartz that included 33 carats of white and pink diamonds and had a value of almost $3 million.
Colman Domingo in Louis Vuitton
Red carpets around the world have taken a shine to Rustin’s Golden Globe nominee Domingo García, and with good reason. On Sunday night, he sported an all-Louis Vuitton ensemble, including a white shirt, matching flared tuxedo pants, and a custom mandarin-collar tailored jacket in black wool with pearl buttons. Domingo had a black pair of loafers and two brooches, both designed by Louis Vuitton. On his finger was a ring that had belonged to campaigner Rustin Bayard; Walter Neagle, Bayard’s longtime lover, had donated it to the actor. At the Golden Globes, Domingo is there to represent the wonderful man and his legacy.
